It's one of our favourite props and we believe it will become one of the most popular gospel magic tricks you'll perform.
THE EFFECT
The block is placed inside a tube and impaled by a wooden sword, which passes through the tube and the centre of the block. Everything can be seen through two round windows in the tube. Then comes something quite unexpected. The block VISIBLY penetrates through the sword and slides out of the tube into your hand.
The trick is all the more 'deceptive' as the tube can be opened up to show that it's empty inside, (no extra blocks to be seen!).

GOSPEL PRESENTATION - INTRO
'Death couldn't handle Him and the grave couldn't hold Him.'
This presentation uses the props and the effect to retell the story of Jesus death and resurrection. The wooden block illustrates who Jesus was, a stumbling block to the authorities. The sword/cross illustrates his arrest by armed soldiers and his crucifixion. The tube represents the tomb. The resurrection is illustrated by the penetration effect, as the block magically slides free from the sword that pierces it. The story and the effect are beautifully woven together.
GOSPEL PRESENTATION - OUTLINE
'God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.' Act 2:24
Show everyone the block. Explain that Jesus was a carpenter and would have worked with blocks of wood like this. But he was more than a carpenter. He healed the sick and forgave people their sins. This was a stumbling block to the Jewish leaders.
Hold up the sword and explain that they sent armed soldiers to arrest Jesus. Push the sword into the block, explaining how his hands and feet were pierced by nails. Hold the bock so the sword forms a cross as you talk about his crucifixion.

The sword is removed and the block is placed inside the tube, and can be clearly seen through the two circular windows. The yellow circle reminds us of the stone block that was rolled in front of the tomb.
The sword is push through into tube and through block, holding it in place. This reminds us that the tomb was guarded by armed soldiers and sealed.
Now for the magic. Turn over the tube and the block slides out, freed from the sword that penetrated it. IMPOSSIBLE!
Point to the empty hole in the tube. Explain how on the third day the disciples found the stone rolled back. Open the tube and comment how the tomb was empty. Jesus' body was gone. He had been raised from the dead.
Pick up the yellow block, explain that in God's eyes we are more precious than gold. That's why he sent his son to die in our place.
GENERAL PRESENTATION
There are many different ways to present this effect. Why not approach this as you would a large stage effect and perform it to music. Or for a younger audience, invite a volunteer up, have them tap the tube with a wand to make the magic happen and slide the block out into their waiting hands making them the centre of attention. Present this as an example of the effect that Houdini might do, after all he walked through a solid wall. Swap the sword for a large pen and use that to perform the effect, talking about how the pen is mightier than the sword.
