The easiest and most striking visual trick you will ever perform.
The magician displays a large black and white disc, attached to a cordless drill. Turning the drill on, the disc slowly rotates - create a swirling hypnotic pattern. He asks the audience to start at the centre of the spiral, trying not to blink, for thirty seconds. When the time's up, he asks them to look straight at his head...it bulges and grows magically, talk about being big-headed! Repeating the effect, the audience are again asked to stare at the disc. This time though, the magician's head appears to get smaller and smaller...maybe it's time to see a shrink!
Don't worry, it doesn't hurt a bit! You can even ask the audience to look at each other when the spiral stops, rather than at you, this will generate lots of laughter in the audience (in a stage show, just make sure the house lights are up!)

We recommend playing suitable music whilst the disc is spinning, something mystical or hypnotic sounding. This will add to the drama, and also help focus the attention of your audience on the disc.
The tricks sells itself, but you can add patter if you prefer - it suits a scientific theme, perhaps a mad scientist with his latest invention!
This effect generally does not work for young children, they are unable to focus as easily for as long. But for older children, teenagers and adults - it's a sure-fire hit!
