Fun mathemagical trick with a volunteer. Great for school assemblies and church services. Get the audience to count along.
The Effect:
The performer displays 5 plastic cards, with different numbers printed on each side. The cards are removed, mixed, and secretly reinserted in the stand by a spectator, as the performer looks away (you could be blindfolded, or even in another room!)
The stand is designed so the numbers are completely concealed . The performer turns around, and instantly calls out the total of the numbers on the cards facing the audience.
The numbers are added, and the performer got it right...he must be A MATH-E-MAGICIAN!
Performance Ideas
You can also deliver the effect as a prediction.
After the performer has placed the cards in the stand, with the numbers hidden from view, you can write down the total instantly. Then have the spectator add up the numbers, and your prediction matches! You can explain that there are over 3800 possible combinations, but you correctly predicted the answer in an instant!
The trick can be immediately repeated for different combinations giving you different totals.
Gospel Presentations
In church services, the numbers can be linked to hymns - as the cards look like hymn cards. Or link the answer to a verse or passage in the Bible, and use that the basis for your message.
