5 volunteers are invited to the front and give each something to hold or wear that turns them into one of the characters. For the Wiseman it could be a plastic crown, for the shepherd a tea towel and head hang. Each character has a prompt card with a single line on it. How will you dress up your characters?
Script 1 'Instant Nativity' by Mark Foster has each volunteer saying a 'catch phrase' each time their character's name is mentioned in the story. From Isaiah's 'Read all about it!' to Joseph's 'Don't drop the baby' and the Wise Men's 'Follow that Star!'.
Script 2 'Nativity Mix Up' by Dan Wood is full of funny word play using Dan's many years experience as a children's entertainer. 'Meanwhile on the hills outside Bethlehem, some DENTISTS were tending to the sheep. No that's not right, dentists look after teeth...who looks after the sheep? Shepherds yes!' 'Does anyone know what the gifts were? Yes, Gold was one. Yes, the second was FRANKENSTEIN. No, not Frankenstein...frankincense. And the third present was what? Yes, a MERMAID! No, not a mermaid! Myrrh.'

It was immediately apparent that the audience was intrigued from the start as the participants began to dress in the costumes and ancillary props provided, and it was also obvious that the participants enjoyed performing as much as the audience enjoyed watching them.
The scripts which accompanied the props were a perfect match, and ensured that this particular spot became, without doubt, the highlight of the show.
Having spent the last thirty years as a close up magician I am acutely aware that every purchase made should include what I call a 'Pound per Minute' component, and Instant Nativity certainly has that.
The props included are made to last yet versatile enough for any damage or loss to easily replaced from a local store, thus ensuring continuity without the added expense of re-ordering the entire effect, something that any entertainer purchasing this effect will find assuring. One of the great things about Instant Nativity is the choice of the three accompanying scripts.
Even if the audience have seen you (the magician) performing this effect before, by the simple use of one of the other two scripts, the effect can be performed in an entirely different manner - something that can rarely be said of other magical purchases.
In closing I will say that if the performer can read, he can entertain ANY audience with Instant Nativity as no magical expertise or rehearsal is required - in fact, it's funnier if no rehearsal is done before hand.

Not so much a trick but fantastic, I used it in 3 different schools and even my own church over Christmas, so much fun and laughter, I added lots of things and actions for them to do. I used the Instant Nativity at a District Scout Carol Service around a campfire. At each stage of the story, I commandeered a "willing" volunteer to take the part and got everyone to use the responses. It was a great way of involving everyone attending in an interesting and fun way as well as getting the real story of Christmas across to people of all ages.

This is not a magic trick, but a great selection of props and scripts enabling anyone to do a great presentation of the Nativity Story with no previous practice for the helpers. I used this in a school assembly and in our church carol service, and it was great to have five helpers on stage, some of whom were more enthusiastic than others. If you are able to ad lib a bit, then you can incorporate the reactions of the helpers in the show (for example, my chosen 'wise man' was rather reluctant, and so this was featured in the story). I only used the first script both times, but with the other scripts available it will extend the life of this show.
The performances got fantastic reactions from the audiences, and it can add extra comedy if you have a girl wearing the beard as Isaiah, for example. Don't be afraid to add your own personal touches to the script, as this can add to the fun and make it particularly relevant to the audience or your participants.
I would highly recommend this for anyone to use, and even when things go slightly wrong (headwear falling off, or your volunteers forget to say their lines, or cannot pronounce their words), you will have a great time using the Instant Nativity!
