The magician shows a salt shaker filled with salt. Making a fist, he pours the salt into his hand and quicker than you can say abracadabra - the salt vanishes! But wait, there’s more! Briefly covering the shaker with his hand or a silk and making a swirling motion in mid-air, the salt returns. In the past, magicians have needed to use a special gimmick and real loose salt to vanish it in their bare hands, but with this version the sealed prop does all the work for you!
Performance tips:
Salt can be an ingredient as part of any cake-baking routine. Or as ‘magic dust’ throughout your act, sprinkling it on silk handkerchiefs, boxes and bags to make the magic work. When it runs out, simply make more magically! Mission Magic’s Dan Wood likes to ask the children to throw invisible grains of salt into the empty shaker . When the shaker is then shown full of now-visible salt, it always gets a ‘wow’ and helps the audience think they can all do magic!
Gospel Presentation:
Fun prop to illustrate many different biblical messages. Salt is a necessity of life and in biblical times was used a seasoning, a preservative, a disinfectant and in payment! The Bible contains numerous references to salt. It is used metaphorically in the bible to signify permanence, loyalty, durability, fidelity, usefulness, value, and purification. e.g. Lots Wife Gen 19:26, Everlasting Covenant Numbers 18:19 and Jesus' calling to be salt (and light) in the world Matt 5:13.
BONUS: The salt shaker has a section in the lid that allows you to pour in real salt before the show (we recommend popcorn salt, as it’s finer and flows better) This feature means the audience can see some of the salt coming out when you first start pouring. Not compulsory, but an added convincer.
