You show everyone your new wooden Christmas box. Flipping down the sides you show that it's empty. Time to decorate it with 3 colourful silk hankies that you pass through the holes in the side of the box. You flip up the sides and add a gift tag and a stick on gift bow. Wonderful. Now what going to go inside. Why not a lighted candle! 'Shall we push it up into the box from the bottom,' you ask 'What could possibly go wrong!' And you pass the lighted candle through the box without setting light to the silk hankies! Looks like the candle's too big to fit inside the box. So you take it out and flip open the sides, showing the 3 hankies safely in place.
Use the coloured silks to tell the Christmas Story. The box represents the stable, a simple wooden structure. The Blue hanky represents Mary and her new born child who are inside the stable. The White silk hanky represents the visiting Shepherds and their sheep. The Red hanky is the Wise Men bringing gifts. The candle is the light of Christ. A light that does not consume or burn up but a light that guides us in the darkness.
